The Victory Garden (VG) revival story is spreading, spreading, spreading online and in traditional newspapers. This past weekend, over at the Houston Examiner, there was a story about how the San Francisco City Hall may soon have a VG on its grounds. Read more here. Would that more city leaders would latch onto this notion and run with it. (Oh, and if you haven't already, don't forgot to tell the future U.S. president to Eat the View)
Also, it's a few months old, but I just discovered this entry at A Lucid Spoonful.
For fun, and inspired by a conversation late last week, I searched through CafePress--that great visual measure of the Zeitgeist--to see if there were any pro-VG items available featuring WWI & II artwork. Here's what's there:
• Sustainability: Grow it Yourself: A riff on one of my fave vintage posters; similar item here
• War Gardens Victorious: From the book of the same name
• The Fruits of Victory: Liberty also appears in the Victory Garden Clock
• Garden for Victory: I think this is British in origin
• Plant a Victory Garden: Another great image, this one of a family
• Join the US School Garden Army: Haven't talked much here about school gardens, but they were important in WWI and after
• Foods from Corn: Not exactly VG related, but cool
