Load 'em, Head 'em Out: Heirloom Tomato Ranch

Okay, it's technically not a ranch, but a nursery...though ranch would be kinda cool (and appropriate!) because, as I'm learning, raising heirloom tomatoes is as challenging as herdin' cattle (been there, done that).

Been fixin' to post this article by the San Antonio Express News for some time. It's about a former journalist who set up a tomato nursery on SA's Northwest side.

What is it with writers and gardening?

Also worth noting is that the nursery is open to the public AND their site has info on an heirloom tomato veg box scheme (a British term for CSA that is just more fun to say).

Want more info on SA's growing local food economy? See San Antonio Foodshed.

Finally, for fun...listen to a free snippet of one of Tater Tot's favorite tunes: Pink Martini's Hang on Little Tomato. The words, alas, aren't included in this bit...but the music is very, um, tomato-y. If you like it, try the album, too--several garden references.
