One Benefit of the Tomato Scare

This morning, at our local farmer's market, I noticed that there was a big line at the booth selling tomatoes. Because its the annual Blanco Lavender Festival weekend, many of the regular vendors were outta pocket.

But the tomato farmer cleaned up nicely, I guarantee.

In fact, judging from the morning rush at our market, I'm guessing that the 2008 Tomato Salmonella Scare triggered a realization in these parts that fresh and local is better. The lady selling the coveted fruit said last Saturday morning they ran out of tomatoes. She expected to see that happen again.

I'd be curious to know if other local markets were overrun...
