Depression Gardens

Whether than whip out another post from scratch to talk about Depression Gardens (vegetable beds as opposed to the parlor trick with coal), I'm going to give you some links on the topic and relevant matters:

Depression Relief Gardens: 1930-1938 (Source: Sprouts in the Sidewalk)
Remember the Depression (All About Olive) - cites a book reporting that 69% of 2000 Australian Depression-era survivors gardened during the era.

Hmmm...I'm going to hazard a guess that the term "Depression Gardening" won't gain as much traction as other popular names currently in use....but it's good to see people telling the story of another period of self-sufficient gardening in America and elsewhere!

Feel free to add any memories of '30s-era gardening in Comments!
