A bit far from my usual topics, but seeing as the wonderful doula who helped me delivery my child is in the hospital right now herself...recovering from MAJOR surgery...well, I just thought it was a nice time to give a shout in favor of the entire field.
If you're expecting...or know someone who is...please encourage them to at least consider hiring a doula.
My doula was terrific...we had a long arduous labor that came on the heels of a trying pregnancy. My doula, along with a couple of fabulous nurses, saved me from a C-section. She also helped me find a terrific lactation consultant without whom I would never have succeeded at nursing.
My doula (along with my childbirth instructor) helped to save my sanity and consequently make me a better mother. So, while she's recovering and taking care of herself...I just want to take some of that positive energy she gave me and redirect it out into the world. Pass it on...pay it forward...all that good stuff. Maybe that positive energy will come right back to her and expedite her recovery.
