A little editorializing: I'd argue--and have done so in an incomplete, unpublished manuscript shared with a handful of people last fall and then set aside when I went back to work--that the current movement should be termed "Victory Gardens 3.0." Why? Because the concept switched from "war" to "victory" at the end of World War, making ours the third major incarnation (provided it takes off).
