Using Squidoo to Promote Sustainable Living, Victory Gardens

Have you begun to detect a theme this month at RW&G?

For the near-run, and while it's chilly in much of the country, I'm focusing a bit of time and space here at RW&G to using the Internet to promote sustainable living--and victory gardening.

It's "better living" mentoring for the Web.

Today, I'd like to point you to Squidoo.com, where I've got a lens, Join the Victory Garden Revival. Granted, it hasn't been updated in awhile, but I must say that the process of creating it was quite fun.

At first glance, Squidoo seems like just a compendium of web sites, but if you've got time to poke around a bit, you'll discover it's actually an online community. You can use Squidoo to network with like-minded folks (thought not as easily, imo, as you can at Twitter or Facebook) and to promote your blog. Plus, you have the option of selling books and other items from E-bay and Amazon via Squidoo, either collecting or donating the proceeds as your personal budget allows.

To keep things hopping on your lens, you'll want to keep your content fresher than I've done. (For instance, I really need to update my Twitter profile at the bottom! It has my old name. YIPES!)

I'm very much a "plunge right in" kinda gal when it comes to new media. I'm guessing my readers are, too. Truth be told, if you can master Blogger.com, you can master Squidoo. So, here's the skinny on Getting Started with Squidoo.com from founder Seth Godin. Enjoy!

There are all kinds of cool things you could do with your very own Squidoo lens. For instance:

• Tailor gardening, food storage and/or green living advice for your neighborhood, city or region
• Review all your fave garden books
• Document your own journey through sustainability (it's a process, not a destination!)

Readers: Have a fave resource to recommend for Squidoo newbies? Or would you like to plug your lens? Well, people... share your thoughts!
