Remember last fall's Victory Garden meme? Well, I kicked around the idea of reviving it for spring...and finally decided to go in a different direction.
Given the popularity of Twitter.com and my own addiction to it, I decided to see what would happen if I linked up with some other Twitterers and nudged the Victory Garden concept forward.
So, a few days ago, I created a hashtag, #twitter4vg, and set up a Twitter Group by the same name. Would you believe that as of tonight we already have 22 people signed up?
Since the Victory Garden meme widgets were pretty popular, I created one for the #twitter4vg project. Keep in mind that you don't actually have to use Twitter to install the widget on your blog/Facebook/MySpace page, but this is the perfect opportunity for you to sign up if you haven't already.
Here's the widget:
Remember: Widgets and social media are the modern equivalents of the posters that successfully propelled Victory Garden into public awareness in earlier eras. When we "Tweet for Victory," we're continuing an important part of American culture!
Feel free to leave suggestions/ideas for other widgets. I welcome your feedback!
P.S. May try a "Twitter 4 Victory Garden Tuesday" thing, too. More on that here.
