At left is Tater Tot's picture of the raised bed. Not bad for a preschooler, eh?
At right is the new no-dig bed. I have to say, it's proving more difficult to keep the water levels right... and the birds out.
The soaker hose helps with the water, and I'm experimenting with the use of old citrus and veggie bags as bird deterrents. That's the green patch held down by rocks. Reduce/reuse/recycle! Will let you know how it turns out.
So far, we've got zucchini, nasturtiums, zinnias, cukes, melon, assorted herbs, beans, morning glories, tomatoes, carrots, radishes, garlic, and onions. Believe it or not, one of the 'maters has a bloom. The biggest casualty of the bird invasion--surprise, surprise--were the sunflowers.
The thing that's doing best? The wild morning glories, of course.
Oh, and the hummingbirds have returned. Time to start making their food again, too. Spring is here in Central Texas!
How goes it where you live?
